Client Access for UNIX OS turns UNIX workstations into full-featured, optimized clients for the IBM AS/400. Developers can access SQL record-level DB2 data from UNIX-based application servers that enable companies to develop innovative new applications that integrate UNIX and AS/400 systems. Client Access for UNIX OS provides terminal emulation, bi-directional file transfer, remote command, data queues, direct database access and double byte character support (DBCS). 

Built-in Compatibility 
Client Access for UNIX OS was jointly developed by StarQuest and IBM. It is built upon the same technology base as other IBM Client Access products, ensuring optimum compatibility and performance with AS/400 systems. Client Access for UNIX OS is a member of the AS/400 Client Access Extended Family of products. 

Client Access for UNIX OS uses TCP/IP to provide high-speed access to AS/400 data and applications without compromising the data integrity and security of the AS/400. 

Versatile 5250 Terminal Emulation 
IBM 5250 Terminal Emulation enables UNIX users to access data on IBM midrange systems through existing AS/400 applications. Users may choose X/Motif or character-based display. The emulator supports advanced capabilities such as text assist, multi-byte character sets, easy keyboard re-mapping and 132 column support. 

Direct Database Access 
Direct database access enables UNIX programmers to access record-level data directly for query or update and gives administrators control of AS/400 resources. Users can quickly and easily publish AS/400 data to the Web or any other client server application. 

Easy to Use and Fast Bi-directional Transfer 
A native UNIX graphical user interface (GUI) makes Client Access for UNIX OS easy and intuitive to use.  Support for the Common Desktop Environment (CDE) ensures that Client Access for UNIX OS will remain compatible with your UNIX system.  Bi-directional File Transfer enables UNIX users to quickly transfer text, binary and source physical data files to-and-from AS/400 systems. 

Simple Remote Command Execution 
Client Access for UNIX OS enables UNIX users to execute AS/400 commands using either an API or a UNIX window. Users automatically retrieves data from the specified server while the application program continues to run. Frequently used sets of commands can be saved and easily reused for repetitive tasks.

National Language and Multi-Byte Character Support 
Client Access for UNIX OS provides a comprehensive keymapping capability and sample keymap files for popular character-oriented terminals, such as Wyse and IBM3161. 

Double Byte Character Support (DBCS) for X/Motif and character-based terminals support Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. Text, messages, help and menu options/commands may be displayed in DBCS languages. Users can transfer text, binary, database and source physical files containing double-byte data in either direction between the AS/400 and UNIX systems.
