StarQuest Product Release Notes

StarQuest Data Replicator Plus Remote Admin v3.62 Release Notes

March 2010

Introduction

StarQuest Data Replicator (SQDR) is a replication software product that allows you to copy data between IBM DB2, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server database environments.

SQDR Plus for iSeries and SQDR Plus for UDB are companion products that provide incremental replication support from IBM iSeries (AS/400) and DB2 UDB for Linux, UNIX & Windows databases. SQDR Plus is installed on the host computer where the database resides, and is administered with a program called CAMAINT (Capture Agent Maintenance) that is installed as part of SQDR Plus.

This package allows you to install and run CAMAINT on a local workstation, communicating with SQDR Plus running on the host computer. In addition to the CAMAINT program itself (AgentUtil.jar), it contains a private copy of the StarSQL for Java type 4 JDBC driver which is used to provide connectivity to the host system.

The following topics are addressed in these Release Notes. Refer to the SQDR Plus for iSeries Users Guide or the SQDR Plus for DB2 UDB Users Guide for detailed information about using the Capture Agent Maintenance application.

What's New in this Release

This release of the StarQuest Data Replicator Plus Remote Admin introduces the following new features and improvements:

  • A "quiesce" shutdown option is now available.

Upgrade Considerations

This section describes issues of interest for users who are upgrading from a prior version of StarQuest Data Replicator Plus Remote Admin:

  • If you are upgrading from SQDR Plus Remote Admin 3.41, please remove the previous version from the Add/Remove Control Panel. Later versions of SQDR Plus Remote Admin can be upgraded without removing the previous version.

System Requirements

The following are the requirements for installing and running the StarQuest Data Replicator Plus Remote Admin software:

  • Java Virtual Machine (JVM) 1.4.2 or later installed and specified in the PATH (only required if you have not installed StarAdmin)

Type "java -version" at a command prompt to verify that Java is installed.

  • Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 or 2003, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000

  • TCP/IP connectivity to the host database system

  • a user ID and password for the host system with sufficient authority to connect to the database, run stored procedures, and read the SQDR control tables, configuration files and log files.

On an AS/400, the control tables are typically located in the collection "SQDR" and the configuration and log files are located in /home/sqdr, unless other locations were chosen during installation of SQDR Plus. The installation log files are located in /home/<installing-user>.

  • a package collection containing StarSQL packages. The default name is "STARSQL". Refer to StarSQL documentation or contact StarQuest support for assistance.

FixPak and PTF Notes

This section describes specific IBM issues and the FixPak and PTFs that may be necessary for StarQuest Data Replicator Plus Remote Admin to function properly.

Installing and Using the StarQuest Data Replicator Plus Remote Admin Software

  • Run SETUP.EXE to install the application.
  • After installation, you will need to edit the camaint.bat file. Select "Edit camaint.bat" from the Program Group. If are using Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, or Windows 7, and installed SQDR Plus Remote Admin to the default location in Program Files, you will need to right-click on the "Edit camaint.bat" in the Program Group and select "Run as Administrator".
  • Modify the following connection parameters in camaint.bat:

RDB
HOST
PORT
USER
COLLECTION

for example:

set RDB=MYDBNAME
set HOST=MYHOST
set PORT=446
set USER=MYUSER
set COLLECTION=STARSQL

Advanced Setup:

  • If you need to connect to multiple host computers, make additional copies of camaint.bat and change the connection parameters. You may want to create additional shortcuts in the Program Group.

To run the application, select CAMAINT from the Program Group. A command window will open up, and you will be prompted for the host password. Refer to the SQDR Plus for iSeries Users Guide or the SQDR Plus for DB2 UDB Users Guide for details on using CAMAINT.

Known Issues

  • Some functions, such as using "9. Support" to send logs to StarQuest support, and starting and stopping the Capture Agent, are supported only on AS/400 host.
