The StarAdmin utility is used to bind StarSQL driver packages on a DB2 host database. A StarAdmin user must have sufficient rights to create collections and bind packages, tasks which are typically performed by a Database Administrator ("DBA"), host administrator ("Security Officer"), or other privileged user.
It is a standalone application which must have TCP/IP access to a host database that is configured to accept remote commands using the Distributed Relational Database Architecture (DRDA) protocol. See System Requirements below for a list of supported platforms.
The following topics are addressed in these Release Notes. Refer to the Binding StarSQL Packages Using StarAdmin tech note (Quick Start Guide) for detailed information about installing StarAdmin for the first time, and refer to the StarAdmin online documentation for detailed information about using StarAdmin.
Latest version of StarSQL and StarSQL for Java.
None.
You can install and run StarAdmin on computers with the following operating systems.
StarAdmin for Windows requires Visual C++ 2008 runtimes. The StarAdmin installer will install the Microsoft-supplied Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable package if it is not already present on the system. The Microsoft Redistributable package will remain on the system if StarAdmin is upgraded or uninstalled.
StarAdmin for Linux is a 32-bit application; if you are using a 64-bit version of Linux, make sure that you have installed the 32-bit support for your Linux distribution. This is an optional install for some Linux distributions.
# cd /opt/StarQuest/StarAdmin/_uninst
# ./uninstaller.bin
Installation of Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package on Windows 2000
On Windows 2000, you may receive a message that the installation of the Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package has failed, even though it has succeeded. You may ignore this message. Also, the StarAdmin installer may attempt (and appear to fail) to install the Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package even if it is already installed.
