INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
-------------------------
Make sure you have each of the following before you proceed:

* AS/400 running OS400 V3R1 or above
PTFs: You should have the latest PTFs available
from IBM for the Host Socket Servers installed
on your AS400.

* TCP/IP and access to one or more AS/400 servers

* Sufficient disk space for installation
(approx. 20MB plus 20MB for temporary files)

* Root user authority

* AIX 4.3.3 or above installed on your system

Client Access for UNIX can be installed on a server or on as many
clients as needed. Your license agreement provides a certain
number of concurrent connections.

IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTICES FOR AIX:
AIX C Set ++
IMPORTANT: You must have AIX C Set ++ for AIX Application Runtime
(xlC.rte package on the AIX 4.x distribution CDROM) installed to
successfully run StarQuest Client Access for UNIX OS.

AIX T-Chinese Patch
You may need to execute the following commands in order for the
Traditional Chinese Language (zh_TW) iconv converter to work
correctly:
cd /usr/lib/nls/loc/iconv
mv IBM-937_IBM-eucTW IBM-937_IBM-eucTW.orig
ln -s Universal_UCS_Conv IBM-937_IBM-eucTW

Language Converters
Before you can run Client Access for UNIX OS, you must have the
following iconv converters installed:
bos.iconv.ucs.com
bos.iconv.ucs.ebcdic
bos.iconv.ucs.pc
bos.iconv.com

Additionally, all language products pertaining to the specific
language that you are using should be installed. For example:
bos.iconv.ja_JP must be installed for Japanese EUC.

KNOWN PROBLEM WITH 5250 EMULATOR
Problem: X Window terminals:xca5250
When you select 27 x 132 Single Byte Character Set from
the Session/Settings/Display Type menu, 132 columns are not
fully displayed when resizing the emulator.
Workaround:
Resize the emulator back to the default start-up size. Or,
resize the window until the full 132 column width is displayed.

QUICK INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
===============================

1. Logon to UNIX as root.

2. cd to the directory containing the
Client Access for UNIX installer for your UNIX platform.

# cd /mnt/cdrom/caunix/aix


3. Excecute the shell script "setup":

# ./setup

This will install Client Access for UNIX to the default location
(/usr/lpp/ca400) and run post_install, which creates
symbolic links and creates desktop items.

You will be prompted if you wish the install the NLS
(National Language Support) package for localized user interfaces.

The installer will also check for the presence of StarLicense,
and notify you if these appear to be missing.


To remove Client Access for UNIX:
Type:
# lslpp -L all | grep ca400
to seee which ca400 packages are installed.

# installp -u ca400.base
# installp -u ca400. for all NLS packages that are installed.


POST-INSTALLATION TASKS
The remaining post-installation tasks must be completed before
you can use Client Access for UNIX OS:
Set Environment Variables
Run Post-installation Script
COSE Icon Install (X Window only)
Licensing Procedure
Running the Program

The Post-installation tasks are described in SETUP. You access
SETUP by selecting Menu item 5) "Post-installation Instructions"
on the CLIENT ACCESS INSTALLATION MENU (RUNME).

7) Press the 'F12' key or select 'Exit' from the menu bar.

You are returned to the CLIENT ACCESS INSTALLATION MENU (RUNME)


USING Client Access for UNIX
============================

Once you have installed Client Access for UNIX, you will need to set up your
user profile with the appropriate files and environment variables.

Add the following environment variables to your .profile or .cshrc:
CA400=/usr/lpp/ca400
PATH=$PATH:$CA400/bin
MANPATH=$MANPATH:$CA400/man
LIBPATH=$CA400/lib:$LIBPATH

You may also want to set the environment variable BROWSER to use the
web browser of your choice (e.g. netscape, mozilla, lynx, opera)
in place of the supplied cabrowser and xcabrowser when viewing the
documentation and help files:

BROWSER=netscape


Run StarQuest Client Access for UNIX OS by using one of these commands:

X Window: xcamenu
